Established in 1984 as a specialist project and
construction surveying company in the Upper North
Island region, WalkerSEP has grown from a background
of land title/cadastral and engineering surveying
for provincial consultants based in the Wanganui/Taranaki/Central
North Island region in the 1970s/early 1980s. These
included project works on the ski fields of Mt.
Ruapehu followed by open-cast mining, marine and gas
pipeline construction planning and setting out
surveys.
WalkerSEP's involvement in one of New Zealand's
think big energy projects, New Zealand Steel at
Glenbrook (south of Auckland) during the mid-1980s
signaled the beginning of the company's role in
providing a specialised surveying service to
large-scale industrial, high-rise, airport and civil
construction projects, which involved WalkerSEP with
many of New Zealand's largest construction projects
in the last three decades.
(Details of major projects WalkerSEP has
undertaken are shown here.)
Some benchmark projects include 18 years of
expansions/projects at Auckland International
Airport, as well as new terminal building contracts;
roading and airport projects in Pacific Island
territories including American Samoa, the Marshall
islands and Tonga; heavy industrial projects at New
Zealand Steel (Glenbrook), Southdown and Te Rapa Co
generation Power Stations, America's Cup 2000
Viaduct Harbour basin development, the interesting
geometry of the Aotea Centre and the TVNZ Network
Centre, Sky City Casino (Auckland), ANZ Tower and
Metropolis projects, and the Botany Town and Sylvia
Park shopping centres.
WalkerSEP has grown with a client base comprising
most of New Zealand's largest construction companies
(Hawkins, Multiplex, Fletcher, Mainzeal, etc.),
organizations (Auckland International Airport Ltd.),
and design architecture/engineering consultants on a
long standing relationship basis extending in many
cases over three decades. WalkerSEP stay engaged for
the duration of the contract, from the initial
pre-construction planning phase, through to the
piling/foundation and main cyclical/structural
construction, and often also in the finishing works,
final certification and as-built mapping stages,
working with clients, contractors and design
consultants alike as part of the teamwork approach
required for the successful completion of the
project.
The company's solid grounding in large-scale
projects has been the result of a proven track
record of providing an accurate (often to plus or
minus 1mm) and reliable surveying service in
accordance with the critical path programming
timetable and budget constraints typical of these
works. Accordingly, a long standing company
philosophy is to position the assigned field survey
teams at the work face, operating on less than one
day's notice (if not on site full time) and reacting
immediately to a contractor's needs if at all
possible, often on a 24 hours a day/7 days a week
basis where required. The benefits are include
increased construction productivity from such
construction tradesmen as machine operators,
carpenters, concrete placers, boilermakers, riggers,
piling constructors, and more.
While this work involves standard surveying work,
measuring and setting out specific construction
positions and as-built mapping at pre- and
post-construction phases to complement project
planning and design purposes, the company has vast
experience at working at heights, enclosed spaces,
high security and safety zones (motorways,
international airport runways, etc.), with many
projects adding extra geometrical shape challenges.
WalkerSEP has worked at times in conditions of
considerable physical demands involving noise,
weather, temperature, time deadline, aircraft
operation and darkness challenges.
All staff are construction experienced and site
safe accredited.
WalkerSEP have qualified civil engineers and
planners working on a variety of projects ranging
from local authority drainage upgrades to large land
development projects. Working in partnership with
our planners and surveyors, WalkerSEP can take
projects from concepts through design and resource
consent to construction and completion. Our land
transfer surveyors complete all title work
necessarily for the land development projects to
obtain titles as quickly as possible.
Some of the projects our engineering team are
involved with include Matarangi Beach Estates,
Spinnaker Bay, Pine Harbour Marina, Flat Bush Storm
water detention Pond DIA.
The company now employs over 40 full-time staff
members with up to 12 survey teams in the field at
any one time, each equipped with the leading edge
technology equipment, including electronic reflector
less total station laser and Bluetooth GPS
technology. Engineers and Surveyors are registered,
graduate and technician qualified via
Unitec/University, with experience in all types of
engineering surveying with the strong emphasis
obviously on civil, high-rise, airport and heavy
industrial surveying.
The combination of the company's high standards,
experience and meticulous checking procedures makes
WalkerSEP a team you can trust to deliver your
engineering, planning and construction/project
surveying works reliably, accurately, and on time.
